Affiliate Marketing – the very basics.
by: Derek Jones
What is Affiliate Marketing?
It is a very popular business model to follow because it is probably the lowest cost method of starting an Internet Business.
The concept called Affiliate Marketing is very simple in that you sell or promote someone else’s service or product in return for a commission or fee.
This business model exists in many forms, and are commonly called Affiliate Programs. You join the Affiliate Program that the Merchant is operating that is selling the particular product you are interested in promoting. The most common types of programs are as follows:
1. Pay per click – commission will be paid by the merchant for each visitor to his website.
2. Pay per lead – you are paid for each lead delivered to the merchant’s website.
3. Pay per sale – you are paid for each sale completed at the merchant’s website.
Each one of the above returns a certain payment for delivering the click, lead, or sale. By far the largest number of businesses online work on the Pay per Sale system.
Many Internet Marketers will guide the beginner into Affiliate Marketing because it is considered to be the simplest business model to get started as well as develop. It is also considered to be the cheapest method of starting your Internet Business.
Your prime costs will be in the promotion of the product or service. All the costs associated with the product, sales page, delivery, after sales service, as well as the merchant services set up and costs, will be to the merchant’s account.
When starting your internet business through affiliate marketing there are five steps to follow to ensure success:
1. A niche market is your first target – one that preferably interests you and is large enough for you to expand your business within it.
2. Find what is deficient in the current market, a product or service, or possibly a problem that needs resolving.
3. Research the available affiliate products and services for something that will rectify the deficiency or solve the problem.
4. You must promote the product or service.
5. It helps if you have a website of your own which allows you to pre-sell the product before redirecting the visitor to the merchant’s sales page. Your own website can also start generating your own opt-in list.
The requirement for your own website is something that needs careful attention as it will be the way to develop and grow your own targeted list to which you can promote other affiliate products and grow your business.
The one objective that you will need is to create a trusting relationship with your customers as well as your partners. Whether it is Affiliate Marketing, or any other business model that you base your business on, it is of paramount importance to create this trust. Honesty is the key word to be remembered when dealing with potential customers because after a short time they will come to rely on your judgment will start, then continue to buy upon your recommendation.

Why Do Most People Who Try Affiliate Marketing Fail?
by: Anita Buchan
Isn’t affiliate marketing great? You get to sleep late, sit around all day, and only occasionally have to pop over to the computer to check how much money you’ve made in the last hour. A job anyone would kill for.
Except that that’s not quite the truth.
Many of you will have a rather different experience of affiliate marketing – one involving lost money, scams, and endless frustration when the profits you were told you would make just never appear. Others will never have got to that stage, but they’ll still have the same feeling: that all affiliate marketers are scammers, selling a dream that is impossible for most to achieve.
If you’re feeling like that, stop it. Because it’s not true. Affiliate marketing is difficult. But it’s not impossible, and not all the ‘gurus’ are scammers. Some are genuine, and really will help you, if you let them. It is possible to succeed.
So why do most wannabe affiliate marketers fail?
1. They give their money to scammers who then give them useless information.
Many scammers, after they’ve taken your money, will offer a cheap e-book to download. Sometimes this is stolen from another site, but more often it’s something they’ve written in twenty minutes when they remembered that they needed to offer people something. That means it will be filled with useless information that the scammer probably knows nothing about – and if you try to follow it, you might soon conclude that affiliate marketing is impossible and you were a fool for even trying.
2. They don’t have enough patience.
It takes time for the money to start coming in. You need to build up a steady stream of traffic and a mailing list before you can think about earning serious cash. When they only earn a few dollars a day, or fail to receive the thousands they were expecting, many people get disillusioned and decide that they’re better off with the day job.
3. They don’t follow the instructions properly.
I know. Why would you spend your money on an affiliate marketing course only to ignore what it says? But people do. They think they know better than the pros who have been doing this for years. And they usually end up making a mess of it, losing money on unprofitable advertising techniques that don’t work. But, of course, they don’t blame themselves and go back to try to work out where they went wrong. They blame the course they bought, and decide it must have been sold by a scammer – a scammer, like everyone else who claims they make a living affiliate marketing!
4. They think they’re not clever or skilled enough.
Normally, they’re wrong. Affiliate marketing really is very simple. You need intelligence and initiative to become one of the top affiliates, yes – but if you just want to earn some extra money, all you need to do is follow instructions. Buy an affiliate marketing course and do what it says. Too many people sit there and think ‘I can’t’.
5. They decide it’s too much work.
They get taken in by the promises that they can make money going to the cinema, watching TV, washing their hair. In truth, there’s a bit of work to do before you get to that stage – like setting up a website and promoting it, for starters! As soon as they realise that it’s not going to be as easy as they thought, they give up. The truth is, there’s no such thing as money you don’t have to work for (lottery winners excluded!).
Did you notice anything these five reasons have in common?
All of them involve people giving up.
Whatever the reason, if you give up, you’re not going to become a successful affiliate marketer. Fact is, nothing worth having is easy. Being an affiliate marketer is worth it – not just the money, but the excitement of seeing your list grow and traffic rise. And it’s not easy. Most affiliate marketers had to work hard and experienced plenty of failure along the way. You’ve got to be ready for that as well.
Most wannabe affiliate marketers fail because most affiliate marketers give up. You make sure you’re not one of them.

List Building And Affiliate Marketing Go Hand-in-hand
by: Tellman H. Knudson
If you’re into Internet marketing as an affiliate for someone else’s program, how are you advertising your opportunity? I mean, are you just putting out the same old stale page that everybody else uses, or are you building your own page and list building at the same time?
Unless it’s specifically stated in your affiliate agreement, and the means you use isn’t illegal, such as spamming, you can use any means to sell a product. Generally, affiliate pages, emails, and so on are there for your convenience. They at least get 80% of the people moving, who might otherwise take no action at all. Here’s the thing: 20% of the people will be active affiliates, and they’re having greater success because they’re treating the affiliate program as part of their own businesses. They’re more creative, they get more sales, and everyone’s happy.
Setting up a list building page to sell your affiliate product is something you should take action on. Give a review of the product away on your list building page, to entice people to sign up for your list. If you’re going to do that, be sure that you can stand behind the product, that you have used it, and proved that it works. The review can be 250 words or less.
Your review should include information on the features that benefit the user. It should also give the cons of the product. Nothing is 100% great. Usually, there are small things that you would change, if you had a magic wand. Let people know those, too. If your review is too glowing, it won’t seem real. Make it real. Here’s what I mean:
Internet marketing expert, Tellman Knudson’s My Fist List is an easy step-by-step list building information product for new Internet marketing businesses. You will learn how to set up your own domain and web hosting services so that you can get your list building pages onto the Web quickly and easily. It also teaches you to build those squeeze pages without messing with cumbersome HTML. The best part is how to find a reliable autoresponder and how to set it up to make money for you on autopilot. My First List takes all the thinking and questioning out of list building for you.
The only drawback that some might see is that you will need to spend money to get the system working, but you know what they say, “You have to spend money to make money.” And in my experience, paid is always better than free.
But the very best thing about this system is that it works! I’ve tried it, and am making money with it already, though I just bought it last week. How great is that? If you want more information about MyFirstList, just fill in your first name and email address and we’ll get it to you right away.
This might not be as good example an example as a straight affiliate page because an affiliate link for MyFirstList would lead to another squeeze page. People might be shy about opting-in twice before they even see what the product is about, unless they’re very excited by your review. However, if the product you’re selling has a sales page or it’s just to their main website, writing something like this and adding it to a list building shouldn’t be a problem. This is just an example.
Anyway, after they opt-in to your list and confirm their membership, the first autoresponder message should be a “thank you” page. Also give people a bit more information about the product or Internet marketing program, and an opportunity to buy or join by including your affiliate link. This is very easy to do and you should always be list building, any way you can.

Cash Now – Affiliate Marketing
by: Juan Mendez
The apparent availability of wealth draw so many to the Internet, it’s reminiscent of the days of the California Gold Rush. Not so different from that distant past most get disheartened in their quest of making money online. They believe just about everything they see online. With the plethora of available e-Books claiming to have the secrets of striking it rich, they end up spending much more than necessary. The result is more than often information overload with no clear path of where they are going, except maybe onto the next e-Book.
These individuals just want to know how to make money online and how to do it now. There are of course many ways to make money on the Internet, after all it is the world’s largest market place. You need to devise a plan; one can either sell their own product/services or simply sell someone else’s. The vast majority of individuals would fall into the second category. It’s called affiliate marketing and once done correctly this is where you can strike gold.
There are literally thousands upon thousands of products available for anyone to promote and make commissions ranging upwards of 75% some even 100% and all you have to do is sign-up for free. As an affiliate you can start making money almost immediately. There’s no inventory to keep, no having to deal with customers and you don’t even need your own website. What can be better than that?
This is how it works: first you have to sign up to be an affiliate with the company(s) of you choice for the products you want to promote. You would be given a unique URL for their website which contains your affiliate code. This URL leads back to their sales page where any purchases made by visitors will earn you your commission, either a percentage or a flat fee. Tens of thousands of people earn a living this way and free themselves from their regular jobs.
Promote your products! Potential buyers aren’t just going to pull your affiliate links out of mid air. Now you have products that you can sell that’s only half the battle. The second and most critical is to drive traffic to the site(s) using your affiliate URL.
There are several ways to promote your affiliate links, of which I will briefly mention a few. Paid Ads is really the best form of promoting, using search engine pay-per-click on Google, Yahoo etc. For free traffic you can write a blog and include your affiliate link. Write and submit articles on topics you’re comfortable with and include your link in the bio box. You can also have someone write for you, a “Ghost Writer.” Join forums and put your link in your profile or signature area, so whenever you make a post your link gets out there. If you’re looking for financial freedom, look no further than affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Marketing Tips To Help You Earn More
by: Diana Barnum
When you want to make money as an affiliate, it can be confusing when you first start out. The terminology may seem like another language and it is very easy to get frustrated. However, keep in mind that once you understand the process of affiliate marketing, it will seem almost silly at how stressed you got to begin with.
Affiliate marketing is not very difficult. However, there are certain guidelines that you can follow if you want to increase your chances of success.
1) Keywords- keywords are a very necessary part of affiliate marketing. It is what people use to find your site and ultimately become a customer. There are a lot of sites on the Internet that can offer software to assist you in finding the right keywords for your product. Some of the sites have a fee; others offer their software at no cost. By doing a simple search, you will find plenty to choose from.
2) Autoresponders may not seem like they are needed, however, they are an intricate part of how to set up leads from your website visitors. With an autoresponder, you can place forms on your site for your visitors to fill out for more information regarding your products or services. You can also give them a free subscription to your newsletters, flyers, e-books, and anything else you can think of to get their business. After they have subscribed, you can send them information weekly, biweekly or monthly regarding your business. Just like traditional shoppers, online shoppers need to see what you are offering and what type of marketing you are using.
Note: It is also very important that you check your autoresponders to make sure that they are working properly. There is new technology created every day to stop the flow of Spam mail, email filter may not allow your email to be delivered.
3) Don’t go it alone- It is important that you do not feel alone. Talk to someone who can assist you in your affiliate marketing. There will always be someone who knows more than you, and their assistance may be the difference between success and failure.
4) Talk to your customers- it is great when you have a steady customer base. However, it is important that you not only email them, you should also call them once in a while so they are reassured that you are a real person. Sending out seasonal greetings is a great way to show that you appreciate their business.
5) SEO- It is critical that you are up to date with the latest search engine optimization (SEO). Popular SEO sites contain the most up to date information on every aspect of online business. So search for them in your favorite search engines, subscribe to their ezines and apply what you have learned to your own websites.
It is a sure thing that your competitors are doing everything they can to get your customers. So you should do everything you can not to let them!

Do You Have Affiliate Marketing Plan Yet? This May Help You…
by: Joe Stewart
Alright, you’ve made the decision that you want to make money on the Internet. Great! That’s fantastic that you’ve made the decision to take contraol of your life and your finances. I just have one question for you. Do have an affiliate marketing plan written up yet? I’m assuming that you’ll be starting off as an affiliate marketer because this is how most people start out. Anyway, do you have any clue how you’re going to get this thing going? Let’s take a look at a few things that you’ll need to consider before you begin.
Do you know what it is that you’d like to promote? If so, have you done adequate research to determine that there’s enough of a market in order to build your business? If not, do you know how to properly research a market in order to determine if it’s potentially profitable or not? You’ll need to either know how to do this or have someone you can trust show you how before you can do anything. Don’t just start throwing money and spending your time without having a structured plan.
Have you researched different affiliate programs to determine if there’s more than one in your market? Competition is good my friend. It means that people are making money. If there are only one or two affiliate merchants in the niche you are considering you might want to look into something different, while monitoring your chosen niche for positive activity. If it starts picking up then you’ll be ready to jump in, but if not you’ve saved yourself time and money.
Are you going to build your own website or have it done for you? Are you going to be writing your own web copy or outsourcing it? Are you aware of the expense involved with this, especially for professional copywriting? If so, have you allowed for it in your budget?
I’m not trying to be negative by hitting you with all of these questions. I just want you to be aware of what you’re getting into and I want to make sure that you don’t just jump into Internet Marketing like some crazy person (me) and start throwing money around blindly, only to find that six months and whole lot of money have gone by without getting much accomplished. Take a look at what I talked about before and start writing stuff down. Do some research and figuring exactly how much this is going to cost to get you started. You can get a blog for free and just start writing about your topic by educating others. A lot of people have made it big by doing this alone and that won’t cost hardly anything to get started. Just get your affiliate marketing plan in order and start taking action!

Affiliate Marketing Tips
by: Juliette Lee
Today, many of us want to pack up our jobs and be our own bosses. The idea of working for you attracts many. However, the reality of making it happen soon stops most. In fact the vast majority of us cannot get a business off the ground due to 2 main factors; the first being money and the second being risk.
Starting even a small business takes a fair amount of money. You need to buy or rent premises, purchase your stock and equipment and pay staff if you have them. You will also have other outside expenses such as advertising.
Risk is the factor that kills most businesses off. Even if you’re lucky enough to get the capital to start, nearly 90% of all small businesses fail in the first year. If yours is one of the lucky ones, you have to keep reinvesting your time and money to build up the businesses reputation. It could be anywhere from 5-7 years before any significant profit is seen. Most of us cannot wait that long which is what makes affiliate marketing such an attractive offer.
Affiliate marketing involves you, working as an affiliate for a merchant or company. You sell either goods or services and you’re paid on how much you produce. There are no costs and no risk. You put in what you choose and are rewarded accordingly.
Running an affiliate marketing business is challenging. You’ll have to work very hard to build it up. However, you’ll be rewarded for your hard work not someone else. Getting an affiliate marketing program going may seem difficult. The truth is it is down to you and how much you want to put in. There is no sure fire way to success but there are some good tips that you can follow to make you affiliate marketing scheme as successful as possible.
There are literally thousands of programs for you to choose from. However, to get started you may want to choose something that you are familiar with. This product or service may not be the hottest thing on the current market or make you a millionaire, but you will come off more confident and sincere with something you know and believe in.
This will also help when it comes to creating your site. Something familiar will allow you to be personal and creative. Trying to create a site around something you know little about will soon become boring and tedious.
Working with something familiar will also give you the some experience in the program. You can always expand at a latter time when you are more familiar with how things work.
Another good piece of advice is to watch the number of banners that you put up. A site full of banners will make the site look ugly and put off potential buyers. Carefully place your banners and use them to accent your site. Stuffing it full will not help.
Remember, in the world of affiliate marketing there is no such thing as the perfect program. Any particular program will be stuffed full of varying testimonials. Some will be great will others will have not done so well. You need to decide for yourself and not be put of by a few bad experiences. In the end it is down to you and how much you want to put in.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money and work for you. The risk to you is minimal and there is no start up cost. There are many great affiliate marketing programs out there and choosing the right one may seem like a daunting task. When you first start out remember to stick to what you know. Find something you know about and have an interest in. Make your site attractive to others and resist the urge to fill it with banners. This may end up having the opposite of your desired effect. Finally remember, there is no perfect program. Some will have success where others have failed. It is all down to you. Don’t give up.

Herewith is another awsome article that I would like to share with u because it seems very interesting
Online Home Business Marketing Ideas And Tips For Affiliates
by: Cynthia Minnaar
A huge amount of time and effort goes into the advertising and marketing of an online home business so herewith some online business marketing ideas and tips for affiliates to ensure you get the maximum out of your online promotions.
Unfortunately there are people using the internet who are dishonest and will have no hesitation in changing affiliate links. Affiliate links are easily changed so it is strongly advised that you cloak your links prior to starting any advertising in order to avoid the loss of commissions. You can do this through your hosting panel if you own your own domain or by using tinyurl.com.
It is really important to check that all the links on your website as well as your affiliate links are working as there is nothing more off putting to a potential customer to click on a dead link. If you search on Google for `link checker` or `link validator` you will find some really helpful free online tools to check the links on your website.
It is not unusual for sites to go down for some reason or another, for example they may be having server problems and if that is the case you need to be in a position to immediately pause your marketing campaigns during the period the site is offline. You certainly do not want to be paying for clicks to a dead link. If you are using pay per click advertising (PPC) you can access your account and temporarily disable the display of your advert.
The same applies to credits you may have accumulated or purchased in the traffic exchanges. For example Traffic Swarm offers a facility where you can temporarily disable the display of your link. Once the site is back online you can then simply log in to your account and enable the links again. Most classified advertising sites also give you the option to open an account which will enable you to make changes to your adverts and put them on hold if necessary.
It is also unfortunate that some programs are short lived on the internet and so it is important that you ensure that you are not promoting an affiliate program that no longer exists.
If you are considering purchasing targeted traffic then be sure you will be given access to a panel where you can check your stats and change the targeted website if necessary.
Sure there are going to be places that you are promoting your online home business and affiliate links that you will not be able to change immediately, but at least for any paid advertising it is advisable to only use services whereby you have access to your account in order to be able to control when your adverts run.
Also be sure to read emails that you receive from the affiliate programs that you are marketing as they may include important information regarding changes to their links or advertising materials such as banners and landing pages. It is advisable to upload any banners you are using to your own hosting account so that in the event of the affiliate program discontinuing a banner your link will not be affected.
One of the very important things I have learnt while growing my own online home business is that you need to be in control of as much as possible on the internet and you can achieve this to a certain extent by owning your own domain. You then have more control of your online home business marketing and will be able to promote all your affiliate links on one website and be in a position to instantly access your hosting panel to change, cloak and redirect affiliate links.
There were some useful tips and tricks to benefit honestly from affiliate marketing.
